These photos are here in the order they were taken.  I put them up just to show the series of events with basically an untrained dog.

I am just walking along with him.  He works best with cattle-dog-me, cattle out front, dog in between, then me.  Whichever way I walk is the way he pushes them.  He can, and does, go around to the front to stop them and control PACE.  He would probably fetch them if I wanted him to but mostly he goes to the head to control speed.

Picture below: I've decided I'd like to move them along the fence, which is to the right.  He is bunching them up.

Below, non-dog broke cows just need a little tuning up.

Below:  Now they know how to turn and move off him nicely and are moving up to the fenceline.

Sometimes what he does isn't pretty but it works.  This is him circling the entire group on their way up to the fence.  He had pushed a little hard and they were moving a bit fast so he went to the head to slow them down.  I don't tell him to do this stuff, he just does it.

Now he's got them up against the fenceline and we are getting ready to go down the fence to the RIGHT.

He falls in behind and starts wearing back and forth.  I've given him a couple of commands by now, which consist of "here" and "hey" and "steady."

More wearing.

More wearing.

below:  My making him slow down has resulted in the whole bunch scattering a bit.  I lighten up and leave him alone (see next picture).

Below:  They stay together better when I just let him work and stop trying to mess with his head.

Below:  Finished, calling back.
