If you like to ski, and you like to take your
dog along, skijoring is a dog sport that you might enjoy!
You simply put a traditional sledding
harness on your dog, attach them to a belt around your waist, and
off you go. Dogs of nearly all sizes and body types can skijor
with their human partner.
Sledding is also an option if you have
a dog that is medium to large sized. I have several extra
harnesses and of course a dog sled, and I am actively seeking
persons living near the Codroy or Port-Aux-Basques that would enjoy
the occasional winter outing. I'd like to do some winter
camping trips using the sled, too!
Nearly any kind of dog can skijor or sled--you
don't have to own a Husky. All you need are skis, a skijoring
belt and a proper harness that fits your dog. A sense of humour
is a good thing to have as well! Skijoring packages are widely
available on Ebay for very reasonable prices.
There are a growing number of people in the
Corner Brook and surrounding areas that regularly skijor or sled.
If you are interested in becoming involved with the "Sunday
Drivers," drop me a line or give me a call and I'll get you
connected with folks near you!
For your viewing enjoyment, here are some photos
of various sledding and skijoring fun our bunch have shared in the
past couple of years.
