My husband Moe took these photos on November 4, 2008 in our west-side yard in St. Andrews, NL (Codroy Valley).  It all started when Moe saw something fly by the window at speed and then hit the ground hard.  When he looked closer he saw this immature Northern Goshawk wrestling with a mature Snowshoe Hare.  It didn't take long for the hare to stop struggling,  At that point the Goshawk began attempting to fly off with its quarry but was having a hard time due to the large size of the hare.  It managed to get it about 30 feet away from where the kill took place at which point it started de-furring the critter, and began to feed.  My big tomcat Milo came down the road at that point and scared the Goshawk into a nearby tree.  The Goshawk returned to the hare again and again and eventually when we looked out, the only evidence of the hare was a bit of scattered fur.
