Rocky Giroux
the Hahn's Macaw

Rocky is a gentle,
lively bird; so funny and cuddly and cute!
He is a pig for food and if he thinks you've got
something edible he flies right over to
investigate. He has started to imitate
some speech sounds. We are immensely
enjoying his company.
Rocky came to us
from Tiny Rascals Aviary / Joanne Cormier near
Moncton, New Brunswick. He was hatched on
November 5, 2007. Joanne did a lovely job
raising and socializing our boy...he arrived
"ready to rumble" so to speak. Joanne
raises Poicephalus parrots and Hahn's Macaws and
if you are interested in seeing more of her
birds, visit

Joanne also has a fantastic online store called
Healthy Bird
where you can buy everything under the sun for
birds--foods, toys, cages, supplements...you
name it, she's got it.

Above, centre:
Rocky's cage, with the playgym that Moe made
fixed to the top. The playgym is made of
PVC and wrapped with VetWrap for stability.
Rocky clambers all over it and loves it.
It also has rings attached so that we can hang
toys for Rocky. From the side of his cage
he can easily climb onto the wall perch that
goes across the window.
Below: The
apple branch play stand that Moe and I made for
Rocky. He absolutely loves this one and
spends lots of time attempting to chew it up!
Great mental stimulation for a parrot (they need
this sort of outlet in order to stay sane).
His cage is located
in our sunroom, and his apple branch play stand
is located 30 feet away at the opposite end of
the dining room. Rocky spends his entire
day (when we are home and can supervise, that
is) loose in the house free to go where he
chooses. He is usually on either the top
of his cage or on his play stand, on me, or
stomping around the table demanding a bite of
whatever we're eating. The first thing I
do when I wake up is open his cage door, and in
the evening when dusk is falling I put him in
his cage for bedtime.
